Resources - Books

Books about writing, publish, self-publish and blogging.

Last update: 12 June, 2013

This page is dedicated to books about writing, publishing and self-publishing both free and paid ones.

In most cases the book will be linked to its Kindle edition in Amazon as that is the way the book came into my hands (or better said the way it landed in my tablet). Occasionally you will find the link to it's paperback or hard-copy version. Because I understand that the majority of people reading this blog are going to have better access to Amazon.com and not Amazon.co.uk (where I get most of my physical books) that's where the link will lead you.

I will also try to get you a link for each book in Goodreads so that you not only have my opinion and the the opinions of other buyers in Amazon but also more impartial opinions from other readers.

This is not a definitive list. Below the heading you will always find a date with the last update to the page, and the opinions in here are no the opinions of an expert but of someone who got involved in the process and decided to research as much as it could about it.

Please leave any comments you would like to add about its contents.

Thank you.

Writing

Revision and Self Editing for Publication by Jason Scott Bell (10 December, 2012)

This is the second edition to this book Revision And Self-Editing (Write Great Fiction) by Jason Scott Bell (5 May, 2008). I read the latter and I thought it was so good that after checking the samples offered by Amazon and reading more reviews I decided to buy the whole "Write Great Fiction" Series. It's very good and very helpful and if you only want to buy a book about writing and self-editing this is the book.

These are reviews for the first edition and these are reviews for the second edition in Goodreads.

Conflict and Suspense, Elements of Fiction Writing Series by Jason Scott Bell (15 December, 2011)

Excellent book about the subject. You will find many techniques in there to add more suspense to any plot and it's full of examples showing them.

Goodreads reviews for this book.

After reading both books I have become a bit of a fan of Jason Scott Bell. He is very good explaining writing techniques and his writing style is very easy to read, so if you see any of his other books just give them a try.
